Study Program

General Information

The duration of study in the Master’s Program leading to the receipt of the Master’s Degree is defined in three (3) semesters during which the students attend Courses and prepare a Master’s Thesis, if they choose to do so. After the three semesters have passed, the student is automatically expelled. With the consent of the supervising professor and decision of the Assembly of the Theology Department, a six-month extension of studies is granted, following a relevant request of the postgraduate student.
Students have the right, upon application, to join the part-time study program. In this case, the student may attend either two (2) courses during the first and second semesters and one (1) course during the third and fourth semesters, or respectively one (1) course during the 1st and 2nd semesters and two (2) courses during 3rd and 4th semesters (total ECTS does not change)
Postgraduate students may also be granted, upon submission of a relevant application, a temporary suspension of studies, which cannot exceed two (2) consecutive semesters. During the suspension, the graduate student loses his student status. The time of the suspension is not counted towards the maximum duration of regular studies.
The educational process includes the systematic monitoring (at a distance) of the Master’s Courses during the two semesters of the Program and the preparation of a Master’s Thesis (if this is chosen) which must be completed during the third semester of studies.
Each postgraduate student is required to successfully attend six (6) semester-long compulsory courses in cycles [sixty (60) ECTS] of which three (3) in the first semester and three (3) in the second semester. Each Master’s Course includes three hours of teaching per week and at least 3 hours of research and corresponds to ten (10) ECTS. The attendance of the courses by the students is carried out remotely (either hybrid, or through the Zoom digital platform), as well as the presentation of the progress of the THESIS, which takes place no later than the middle of the third semester.

Assessment of student performance in courses

Each teacher defines the way of checking his course (written or oral exams, preparation of assignments or a combination of the above). The rating scale for evaluating the performance of postgraduate students is defined from zero (0) to ten (10), including decimal subdivisions, as follows: Excellent (8.5 to 10), Very Good (6.5 to 8, 5 not included), Good (6 to 6.5 not included).
A grade that can be promoted is six (6) and higher.
The evaluation criteria are clearly defined, communicated to the students at the beginning of the academic semester by the lecturer and included in the outline of each course posted on the website of the QUALITY ASSURANCE UNIT and the program.
There are three (3) examination periods: February, June and the repeat examination in September. They coincide as much as possible with the examination periods of the undergraduate study programs, as these are defined each time in the AUTH Academic Calendar.
If the postgraduate student fails the examination of a course or courses during the September examination period and is considered by these Regulations to have not successfully completed the program, he/she will be examined, following his/her application, by a three-member committee of faculty members of the Department, who have the same or related academic subject as the course being examined and are designated by the Department Assembly, following a proposal by the Coordinating Committee. The person in charge of the course is excluded from the committee.
The review request should be submitted to the Secretariat within five (5) days of the announcement of the result of the September examination. If the student does not submit an application within the time limits prescribed by the Department or if he fails the examination by the three-member committee, then he is permanently deleted.

Scheduling

Academic Calendar of the Program
At the beginning of each semester and before the start of the courses, the annual Academic Calendar of the Program, which has been approved by the Assembly and which includes the start and end dates of teaching periods, examination periods, holidays, is posted on the website of the Department or the Program etc. The Academic Calendar of the Program is harmonized as far as possible with the Academic Calendar of the undergraduate study programs of the Department of Theology and AUTH.
Also, at the beginning of each period, the timetable is announced, which includes the days and times of teaching the courses, the dates of other events or obligations, etc.
Registration dates and course declarations
At the beginning of each academic semester, before the start of the courses, the registration dates are determined and posted on the Program website, as well as the registration process for the semester’s courses.
Replenishment of courses
In case of non-realisation of a lesson (except for the holidays mentioned in the academic calendar), the teacher determines its replacement in consultation with the Secretariat of the programme. Students are informed of the date and time of the refill by personal e-mail and through the program’s website

Course evaluation

At the end of each semester, an evaluation of each course and each lecturer is carried out by the postgraduate students, who, in accordance with the provisions of the AUTH quality assurance unit, at the end of each course evaluate the course as a whole in terms of the content, teaching method, etc. through the quality assurance information system.
The evaluation of the Program aims to upgrade the studies, the better utilization of human resources, the optimization of existing infrastructures and the socially beneficial use of all kinds of available resources of the Program and postgraduate students are encouraged for their active participation in the process
